Winter Reading Program at NA-FC Public Library

Hoping to keep your New Year’s Resolution to read more in 2018? The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library can help! Our online Winter Reading Program will be available January 1 through 31, 2018, and all ages are welcome to participate. For ages 0-7, readers will read and log 5 books to complete the program and receive a free book and 5 Fine Bucks. Readers ages 8 and up will read and log 1 book to complete the program and receive a free book and 5 Fine Bucks. Visit the Children’s, Teen, or Adult Customer Service Desk to pick up these prizes. Fine Bucks can be used to pay library fines for overdue or lost materials.
All readers who complete the Winter Reading Program will be entered into a drawing for a $50 movie gift card. The more books you read and log, the more entries you’ll have! E-books and downloadable audio books count for logging in our Winter Reading Program too – what a great way to get started using that E-reader you received as a gift.
To participate in the Winter Reading Program, visit https://nafclibrary.beanstack.org/ and create an account, or log in to your existing account (if you created an account for the Library’s Summer or Fall Reading Programs this year, you’re all set!). In 2018, Beanstack plans to launch a first-of-its-kind mobile app designed to encourage reading all year long.
Billionaire investor and Shark Tank personality Mark Cuban is sponsoring Beanstack’s inaugural Winter Reading Challenge in support of local libraries. Cuban became an investor in Zoobean, Beanstack’s parent company, after the founders impressed him with their vision on Shark Tank in 2013. The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library is one of only three libraries in the state of Indiana participating in the challenge, and the only participating library in southern Indiana.
Cuban has challenged close to 100 libraries all over the country and South Korea, to meet a collective goal of reading at least one million minutes and 50,000 books during the month of January. If achieved, Cuban pledges to donate $25,000 to First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise that provides new books, learning materials, and other essentials to children in need. Cuban will also give $10,000 for top-performing libraries to use for their community programs or donate to nonprofit organizations in their area.
