Louisville Ethnic Dancers 5:30 PM-6:00 PM

Join us on the evening of Thursday, October 19 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM for German food, live accordion music, and more as we celebrate German American Heritage at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library! A sampling of traditional German food will be available at the event (while supplies last), and attendees can learn how to get started tracing their German genealogy with information provided by the Library’s Indiana History Room. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite German (or German-inspired) attire for the occasion.

NEW this year, the Louisville Ethnic Dancers will perform a selection of German, Austrian, Swiss, and Bohemian dances as a pre-show from 5:30 PM-6:00 PM in the Teen Scene area (located by the Lower Circulation Desk). Guests of all ages are welcome to attend the German American Heritage Festival. This event is graciously sponsored by German American Bank.

The Library also invites you to join us before the German American Heritage Festival for a German Genealogy class! This two hour class on Thursday, October 19 from 3:30 PM-5:30 PM will cover how to trace where your German ancestors came from, and what records are available right here in the U.S. to aid your search. We’ll also discuss what’s available here at the Library to further your research. Registration is required. Participants should have had experience in doing genealogy research and in using the Internet. For additional information, or to register, please contact the Indiana History Room at 812-949-3527.

The German American Heritage Festival will take place on Thursday, October 19, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM in Strassweg Auditorium, located in the lower level of the Library.
