Job Title: Part-time Safety Officer (20 hours per week)

Department: Administration

Reports To: Safety Officer Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Benefits: Prorated

 

Summary Provides a safe and secure environment for library patrons and staff and helps to provide effective access to library resources.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Makes regular rounds of interior and exterior of the Library and buildings.

Patrols and monitors the public and staff parking lots.

Respond to staff calls for assistance.

Monitors security cameras.

Complete Incident Reports.

Initiate calls for assistance for Police or Fire Department as needed.

Enforces FCL policies rules and safety regulations.

Assist at closing times to assure that all users leave the premises.

Provide a security presence for the building.

Responds to security alarms and takes necessary action.

Be attentive to safety hazards and obstructions that make the building less accessible both within and on library grounds and correcting or notifying the person in charge.

Be attentive to security problems (such as theft and mutilation of materials) and patrons who are violating the library’s building use policy.

Education and/or Experience                   

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least six months of related experience. Previous Safety, Military or Police experience preferred, but not required.

 

Language Skills                   

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patrons, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills                   

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability                   

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills                   

Knowledge of basic computer software applications and email.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • • Ability to interact with diverse groups.
  • • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • • Ability to act calmly and with composure in difficult situations.

 

Other Qualifications                   

Must be able to a flexible work schedule, which could include evenings and weekends.
