The Stuart Barth Wrege Indiana Room at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will launch a monthly series of presentations to commemorate Indiana’s founding and bicentennial. The presentations will showcase different aspects of Indiana history, with a focus on how it relates to Floyd County. Indiana became the 19th U.S. state on December 11th, 1816.

The first Bicentennial Lunch & Learn program is called “From the Beginning: Dennis Pennington and the Drafting of the Constitution.” It will take place on Wednesday, January 13th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Library’s Strassweg Auditorium. Registration is not required and guests are welcome to bring their own lunch to the event.

Mandy Dick will lead the program, giving a first person presentation as Elizabeth Pennington, whose husband, Dennis Pennington, was a member of Indiana’s First Constitutional Convention and helped draft the Indiana Constitution. She will discuss Pennington’s marriage to one of Indiana’s founders, as well as the role that they played in the writing of Indiana’s state constitution.

“The Indiana Room, in conjunction with NA-FC Library, is putting on these programs to engage the community in celebrating the bicentennial,” said Library Archivist Kaitlyn Markert. “It’s our way of reaching out and giving back.”
