JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Social Services Leader

Classification: Specialist

Reports to: Library Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the service programs of the library. Works collaboratively with community agencies and organizations to create partnerships to help meet social services needs of individuals and families in community.

ORGANIZATION-WIDE EXPECTATIONS

  • Follows established Library and personnel policy, procedures and work standards.
  • Attends work regularly, on time, and as scheduled.
  • Exhibits welcoming, helpful, positive and friendly behavior to all patrons, staff and guests at all times in all communications formats (verbal and non-verbal).
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Regularly monitors Library communication venues including, but not limited to employee email, staff bulletin boards, library social media outlets and the shared staff electronic storage locations.
  • Participates in meetings, conferences, continuing education, community engagement, and special projects as required by the Floyd County Library or as dictated by professional commitment.
  • Addresses, or assists in addressing, issues and concerns related to the safety of Library staff and users as well as the security and maintenance of Library buildings and equipment.
  • Actively assisting in the cleanliness and organization of service and work areas to assure an inviting public environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive.

  • Assessing the service needs of individuals and linking them to the appropriate resources and providers.
  • Oversee Food Pantry/Volunteer Coord ensuring all pantry health and safety requirements are maintained.
  • Help prepare staff to better handle crisis situations and convert the Library’s patchwork of partnerships and programs to a consistent array of services.
  • Facilitating programs and services, job training, and self-sufficiency initiatives.
  • Developing a resource directory of local social service agencies and providers for easy access.
  • Serve on Library Leadership Team
  • Conducts outreach activities to develop a greater referral base and maintain community and social services resource network.
  • Advocating for adequate, timely, and cost-effective services and responding to any issues that occur during the delivery of services.
  • Scheduling appointments for individuals, answering phones and tracking individuals’ service records.
  • Oversees Recruitment, interviewing, hiring and training of volunteers/interns
  • Maintain good relationships with service providers and expand the list of resources
  • Monitoring the services being provided and staying up to date on any services being introduced or discontinued.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of individual’s interactions.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and responds to situations adhering to NASW’s Code of Ethics and is guided by decision making with everyday professional conduct.
  • Evaluating the quality of all services and identifying areas that need improvements.
  • Serve as a liaison for community partnerships with social service agencies.
  • Following up with individuals regularly to assess and ensure their success.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including intake forms, statistical reports, mileage reports, and requisition forms; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; maintains individuals’ data files ensuring that file contents and case documentation meet established ethical and legal standards; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position supervises Food Pantry/Volunteer Coord. staff person

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field. MSW preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and service skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Staying up to date with services, policies, and regulations.
  • Strong record-keeping and analytical skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING

  • Attends and participates in workshops, training sessions, and other meetings.
  • Responsible for training all custodial staff for the purposes of ensuring that the library objectives are achieved.
  • Attends all Staff Meetings, In-services and individual meetings with management team members.
