Job Title: Librarian Assistant – Makerspace – Galena

Salary: minimum LA 4 $13.00, LA 3 $14, LA 2 $15, LA 1 $16
Summary:
- Responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and programming of Galena Library’s Makerspace.
- Customer Engagement/Assistance/Advisory/Reference
- Outreach
- Information Literacy/Programming
- Collection Maintenance: shelving, pulling holds, weeding, cleaning, ect.
- Non-Scheduled Activities (committee service, conferences, professional development)
- Other Duties as Assigned by Leadership
ORGANIZATION-WIDE EXPECTATIONS
- Follows established Library and personnel policy, procedures and work standards.
- Attends work regularly, on time, and as scheduled.
- Exhibits welcoming, helpful, positive and friendly behavior to all patrons, staff and guests at all times in all communications formats (verbal and non-verbal).
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Regularly monitors Library communication venues including, but not limited to employee email, staff bulletin boards, library social media outlets and the shared staff electronic storage locations.
- Participates in meetings, conferences, continuing education, community engagement, and special projects as required by the Floyd County Library or as dictated by professional commitment.
- Addresses, or assists in addressing, issues and concerns related to the safety of Library staff and users as well as the security and maintenance of Library buildings and equipment.
- Actively assisting in the cleanliness and organization of service and work areas to assure an inviting public environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
- Schedules user appointments, trains, and assists patrons in the safe and effective use of Makerspace equipment, including, but not limited to: 3D printers, laser engravers/cutters, vinyl printers/cutters, Cricut machines, sewing machines, embroidery machines, photography/video equipment, and associated software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Corel Draw).
- Provides one-on-one and group instruction to users with varying levels of technological proficiency.
- Promotes creativity, innovation, and self-guided experiential learning within the Makerspace.
- Ensures all patrons adhere to Makerspace policies and safety guidelines.
- Initiates, plans, hosts, and conducts a variety of engaging programs, workshops, and activities to encourage the use of the Makerspace by diverse audiences.
- Prepares or obtains necessary training materials and resources for programs.
- Monitors and manages inventory of Makerspace consumables and supplies (eg., 3D printer filament, vinyl, fabric, etc.).
- Works collaboratively with the IT department for technology needs, asset management, and monitoring and implementing software and hardware updates.
- Works collaboratively with other branches to assure consistent and customer service focus at all system MakerSpaces are in sync and meeting strategic initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of various Makerspace technologies and equipment (e.g., 3D printing, laser cutting/engraving, vinyl cutting)
- Proficiency with PC and Mac operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and engagement.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and patiently to inexperienced users.
- Strong writing abilities in various forms of communication.
- Self-motivated and goal oriented relating to strategic initiatives.
- Proven ability to problem solve an identify opportunities for growth and change to enhance customer experience.
- Ability to plan, organize and carry out a program.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of library information.
- Strong understanding or willingness to learn various digital platforms to provide customer assistance.

Experience and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent for entry as an LA 4. Salary levels for Library Assistants determined by work experience and additional education per established salary schedule.
- Experience working in a Makerspace or similar creative technology environment.
- Experience providing instruction or technical support to diverse groups
- Public service experience preferred
- Community engagement or education background preferred.
