Guess what? Today is World Penguin Day!! So, in honor of this momentous occasion, I thought it only fitting we talk about the most amazing penguin ever: Opus!
Opus is the delightful creation from Berkeley Breathed; first introduced in the early 1980s newspaper comic Bloom County. Originally intended to be only a passing amusement, Opus soon found himself as one of the main characters in a comic filled with fanciful small-town vibes and a group of unique misfits – many of whom shared one bathroom in the town boarding house.
He has starred in Bloom County, Outland, Opus, and can currently be seen on Berkeley Breathed’s Facebook in the new Bloom County. Opus has an outgoing personality, struggles with new technologies – such as his Smart Bow-Tie, occasionally wears underwear, and loves to cosplay with his friends. He ran in the 2016 presidential election, as running mate to Bill the Cat. Their platform was “two spaces after a period,” of which he is especially passionate.
Breathed doesn’t seem to shy away from anything. His comics are filled with political satire, modern fiction, subtle jabs, and loads of laughs. Opus is exactly what you need to bring perspective to the insanity you see every day.
“I laughed. I cried. It moved me, Bob.”

P.S. I may, or may not, have this image tattooed on my arm…without Fanboy Forever, of course.
