The start of a new year is always a great time to look back and reflect on what is working and what can be adjusted. If you discover areas in which you want to make adjustments, I welcome you to explore how the library can help round out your life in ways you might not expect!

Balance creating and consuming

Of course, if you are interested in reading more books this year, you are in the right place. Please check out our catalog, Hoopla, and the Indiana State Digital Library on the Libby app to find any book your heart desires! Conversely, if you read a zillion books last year,  you may enjoy creating stories instead of, or in addition to, consuming stories. Not only is it a fun change of pace, but it can prevent burnout and reading slumps. On the last Monday of every month, at 6 PM, we have an adult writer’s group called Write On that would be perfect to get your creative juices flowing. Or if art is more your style, there is a monthly Make & Take craft for adults on the second Wednesday of the month at 6 PM.

Balance rest and movement

Maybe this past year was exhausting for you and you are ready to relax – try checking out our collection of DVDs. Or if you feel like you have been relaxing long enough and you want to increase your activity, try one of our yoga classes for adults in New Albany or for adults at the Galena branch (and if you have littles, there is a yoga class for children too!)

Balance the digital world and the natural world

If you are looking to upgrade your knowledge and skills in the digital world this year (think professional skills, updating your LinkedIn, digital marketing, and more) you can check out all of our online resources. On the other hand, if you are sick of screens and want to get out in nature, try exploring with a GoPro or searching the night sky with a telescope – both of which can be found in the Galena branch’s library of things!

However you decide to move forward in the new year, your library is here to support you.
