Hi Everyone! As my gift to you this holiday season, I’m going to share some information about a really great resource we have at the library that many people don’t know about….Databases! There are so many times that patrons need information about a topic(s) and we may not have a book for them, but we do have a database that will give them the information that they need. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, I’ll admit, the databases can be hard to locate, but any of the Floyd County Library Staff can easily help you find what you’re looking for. We have Databases for so many topics; like academic research, languages, hobbies and crafts, automotive, test prep, even databases for children and teens. We even have some new ones that we are really excited about:
- Chilton Library gives you detailed information about your vehicle so that you can perform maintenance or repairs.
- Gale Business Plan Builder offers a step-by-step approach to completing your business plan, while positioning yourself for success.
- FOLD3 is located under the Indiana Room Database link. FOLD3 provides access to military records, including stories, photos and personal documents on men and women who served.
All of our databases can be easily accessed through the computers here at the library, and most of them can also be accessed at home through our website with your library card. To find our databases, start by visiting the library’s webpage at floydlibrary.org. At the top of that page, you will see a drop-down menu that says Resources. When you hover on the menu, you are given the option to click on the link for “Online Research and Learning” and that is where most of our databases live. Don’t forget! There are also lots of great databases and other resources on the Indiana Room’s page as well! If you ever need assistance, feel free to stop in or give us a call here at the library.
