If you’ve been to our library recently, you may have seen empty shelves and construction equipment in our usual Children’s department!  In order to install a new chiller (and have refreshing air conditioning this summer!), we are replacing some pipes that, unfortunately, run right through the room where you would normally find books and activities for children.  However, in order to continue providing access to these materials, we have set up a temporary Children’s room at the end of the hall on the lower level, as well as into the hallway.  You may remember this room as the former Indiana Room.

What do we have in this temporary Children’s room?  We have almost the entire collection of children’s books, including all the children’s fiction, graphic novels, picture books, and easy readers.  In the hallway we also have new children’s books, board books for babies and toddlers, and a selection of nonfiction, biographies, and Spanish children’s books.  The children’s media (DVDs and audiobooks on CD) has been moved to our Teen Scene, which is open as usual.  The only children’s books that remain inaccessible to the public are some of the children’s nonfiction, biographies, Spanish, and the parent/teacher collection.  If you need any of these, a staff person would be happy to get them for you, or you can put them on hold and pick them up at the hold’s shelf upstairs when they are ready.  There are also many puzzles and toys to play with in our temporary space, including blocks, magnets, and toy animals.

Our storytimes and other programs are operating as usual during this construction period, and all of our rooms that can be booked by the public are still available.  We hope for Children’s to be in this temporary space for only a few more weeks.  Thank you for your patience and understanding!
