Author Stephen Graham Jones has been in the horror game for a while, but he’s finally getting his due for his 2020 release, The Only Good Indians. It’s a spooky tale of supernatural revenge, regret, and blood, which runs for 310 pages (the perfect length for reading all weekend).

Like the author, the main character of the book belongs to the Blackfeet tribe. Ten years ago, on the last day of hunting season, Lewis and a group of his childhood friends did something they knew was wrong. Since then, bad luck has haunted these men: bad luck and something else, too. Something that wants them to pay for the life they took.

If you’re looking for a slasher story this autumn, I can’t recommend this one enough. If you like Stephen King, Paul Tremblay, and other gory vengeance tales– and don’t mind reading about violence against animals, which this plot hinges on– you’ll like The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. The library’s print copy has a waiting list (it’s worth the wait) but the ebook, audio CD, and playaway mp3 player copies are all available at the time of this writing. Grab it while you can– it’s the perfect time of year for it– and you can tell all your horror-loving friends about it too.
