For the past two months, the Galena branch has been offering classes on how to use a sewing machine. Currently, we offer classes to teens and adults, and the classes have been filling up quickly. We currently have several machines at the Galena Branch, and they have been getting a workout!
The classes are designed for absolute beginners. We cover everything from how to wind a bobbin, how to thread the machine, and sewing basics to help students make and complete a small sample project. So far, we have tackled making coasters and tree ornaments.
We hope to add more classes to the calendar as staff become more comfortable teaching. Sometimes we are learning right along with our students! We want to make sure that everyone who wants to take a class has the opportunity to sign up.
After the sewing class, don’t forget that we have a sewing machine and a few sewing supplies available for checkout through our Library of Things collection. That sewing machine is the same model we use in our classes, so it would be perfect to get some more experience!
