Summer Reading Program - The Floyd County Library

Summer Reading Program – Learning Colors      Your World

Here at The Floyd County Library, our Summer Reading Program has always been one of the highlights of our year.  And it’s starting again soon!  You can preregister now for our 2021 Summer Reading Program: Learning Colors Your World, which will run June 1-July 31!

If you’ve never participated in Summer Reading before, it’s pretty simple.  Read this summer, and be rewarded by your library.  That’s it!  The Summer Reading Program is open to all ages, from babies (who will probably need to be read to, unless you have a genius baby) all the way up to adults.  If your whole family reads a book together, you all get to count it!  You can read whatever you want – books you have at home, books from the library, magazines, audiobooks, ebooks, eAudiobooks, graphic novels, manga, fiction, nonfiction, etc.  You can read books on your own or have someone read to you.  It all counts!

Then you have to keep track of your reading.  We’ll have milestones for you to hit where you will earn prizes – at 5 hours, 10 hours, 15 hours, and 20 hours.  The prizes you earn will vary based on your age or grade level (we go with the grade you will be starting in the fall), and you will also earn entries into the grand prize drawings, which you can view and choose from online.  How will you record your reading?  We use an online program called Beanstack.  You can log in to an account you created in the past (if you entered an email address, you can use the “forgot password?” feature), or you can create a new account.  Then you can log your minutes/hours reading or your completion of activities.

We have three activities this year that will earn you extra entries into the grand prize drawings!  For one of them, you’ll have to visit our Story Walk at Kevin Hammersmith Park.  For another, you’ll visit the Carnegie Center for Art and History, a branch of The Floyd County Library.  Finally, you will earn an extra grand prize entry if you donate an item to our library food pantry, which is opening this summer.

Do you have any questions?  Our staff are happy to answer them!  Just give us a call at 812-944-8464 or email info@nafclibrary.org.

Happy reading, and have a great summer!
