Two weeks ago, we cut the ribbon on a brand new library initiative in Floyd County: our first StoryWalk!

The StoryWalk is located at Kevin Hammersmith Memorial Park (4400 Lewis Endres Parkway) and is a collaboration between the library and our friends at Floyd County Parks and Recreation. The story is placed around the park’s walking trail, a distance of about three quarters of a mile. As you walk along the trail, you can read the story. This is a great family activity for encouraging wellness as well as literacy. Each post contains a spread from the book and an idea for a physical activity to do or a talking point to encourage families to discuss the story as you walk along.

Our first book in the StoryWalk is A Big Mooncake for Little Star by Grace Lin, a 2019 Caldecott honor title. If you like this book from the StoryWalk, you can check out a copy to read at home from our library or download the e-book to read again. We will be changing out the story in the StoryWalk on a regular basis, probably every few months, to keep it fresh and fun.

If you check out our StoryWalk, post photos on social media with the tag #FloydStoryWalk so we can see how much fun you’re having!
