I’ve written before about the difference between our two ebook providers at The Floyd County Library – Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla. If you want to read that blog post, click here. But now, I’d like to introduce a new Hoopla feature called Hoopla Flex. We are one of the first libraries in the country to implement this feature, and it could mean a better chance for you to access the ebooks and eAudiobooks you want.
Basically, there will now be certain ebook and eAudiobook titles on Hoopla (the latest, high-demand titles) that check out to one borrower at a time. If the Hoopla Flex title you want is currently checked out, you can place a hold on it. (If you are also an Overdrive/Libby user, you may notice the similarities between the way that Hoopla Flex and Overdrive/Libby work.) You can tell which titles are Hoopla Flex by the icon shown in the picture above, two curved arrows pointing in the shape of a circle. Right now, you are limited to checking out 2 Hoopla Flex titles at a time. If you already have 2 checked out, you’ll have to return one to check out another. Also, you are limited to 2 holds at a time on Hoopla Flex titles. Our Collection Development staff at The Floyd County Library are able to chose the titles we feature under Hoopla Flex, so feel free to give us feedback on what you’d like to see!
But don’t forget – many offerings on Hoopla still work they way they did before, where you can check out and download them right away, no matter how many other people also have them checked out. Hoopla is calling their titles that are always available “Hoopla Instant.” This includes ebooks and eAudiobooks, as well as comics, movies, music, and TV episodes. These Hoopla Instant titles will have a lightning bolt icon next to them. You can enjoy both Hoopla Flex and Hoopla Instant with The Floyd County Library!
If you ever have questions about Hoopla, please feel free to contact us – call 812-944-8464, email info@nafclibrary.org, or type your question into the chat box that pops up in the lower righthand corner of our website.
Happy (e-)reading!
