Every November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, as it’s fondly referred to.
From the NaNoWriMo Website:
“National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with a first draft. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents. They leave novelists.”
Have you always wanted to write a book? I have!
I’ll be participating in my first NaNoWriMo this year. I’m not sure how it will go, but I’m going to give it a go. Writing a book is something I want to experience before I leave this world.
How about you? We’ve got you covered at the New Albany Library!
The New Albany Library is creating a NaNoWriMo Writing Community to support those who want to participate in the 2023 NaNoWriMo.
Every Monday in the month of November, we have a space set aside to gather together and write for an hour. Just to be together in solidarity as we go through the month-long challenge of putting 50,000 words on paper.
The focus is getting 50,000 words on paper. The editing happens afterwards and is not part of the challenge.
In order to hit the ground running and be ready to start writing on November 1, it helps to do some preparation ahead of time.
October is Preptober, the month used to prepare for NaNoWriMo and is used to set yourself for success.
The NaNoWriMo Website, listed below, has weekly exercises to help you get ready for November, such as picking your novel topic, creating characters, choosing your setting, etc.
You can find the Preptober exercises and all the info you need about NaNoWriMo by clicking the link below.
The New Albany NaNoWriMo Writing Community writing sessions do require registration as seating is limited. You’ll find the links to sign-up here:
