Technology is everywhere these days: from books and music, to television and movies, to communicating with friends and family, nearly every aspect of modern life has in some way “gone digital.” And it’s not only our leisure activities — the National Skills Coalition has estimated that a whopping 92% of jobs in the United States (89% in Indiana) “definitely or likely” require computer skills. Even if you consider yourself “old-school” or a purist who prefers things in their analog form, it is very easy to fall behind (in work, school, or life) without at least some digital skills.
A few weeks ago, my colleague Abby posted an excellent article about the training available on LinkedIn Learning. This is a fantastic resource for expanding your skillset online on your own time and at your own pace, but for those who are new to using computers, jumping into self-directed learning can often feel intimidating, and others simply prefer to learn face-to-face with an instructor.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, The Floyd County Library can help with that! We have a variety of in-person classes designed to help you learn basic-to-intermediate computer skills in a friendly, no-pressure environment. All of our course topics begin with a 101 “Foundations” course designed to introduce fundamental concepts, and higher-numbered classes build on the skills learned in lower-numbered classes.
Here’s what we currently offer; click the links in parentheses to register for classes in November or December.
