In a Galaxy Far, Far Away….

Star Wars has taken over the Floyd County Library! And, I’m totally OK with that!

I remember, as a kid, seeing Star Wars in the theaters when it came out in 1979. My brother and I played Luke and Leia for weeks. Saving the galaxy in our bathrobes and nightgowns while welding deadly flashlights! Vadar didn’t stand a chance!

Over the years the Star Wars fan base keeps growing as new fans are introduced to Han and Chewie, Luke and Leia, and R2-D2 and C-3PO.

Everyone has a favorite Star Wars character. What’s yours?

My favorite Star Wars character is THRAWN. But, you won’t see him in the movies. He’s lives in the many books written about him.

Thrawn was a Grand Admiral in the Empire. However, he wasn’t loyal to the Empire or its agenda. He was only loyal to his own agenda which was to protect his people, the Chiss and The Chiss Ascendancy, which was their cluster of home worlds.

Thrawn is a cunning, intelligent character. Very similar to Sherlock Holmes in his brilliant and analytical mind and ability to figure out the most seemingly unfigureoutable things. Like Holmes, Thrawn also loves culture and art. Thrawn studies a species’ art in order to learn how to overcome them in battle. He’s just such a wonderfully developed character.

Timothy Zahn is the author of all the Thrawn books and they are BRILLIANT!

There are three Thrawn trilogies, The Chiss Ascendancy (The beginning of Thrawn’s story), The Thrawn Trilogy (this is where he begins to work as part of the Empire- to use it to serve his own purpose), and The Thrawn Trilogy – Legends (which takes place after the rebels blow up the second death star in The Return of the Jedi).
