Don’t read if you’re alone in the house…!

Do you keep your doors locked? Do you keep your security system armed? You will after you read I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer by Michelle McNamara (2018; 328 pages). (Click here to access the ebook!)

Michelle McNamara was the author of the popular true crime blog TrueCrimeDiary.com and she spent years of her life obsessed with tracking down the man she dubbed The Golden State Killer. Also known as the East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker, this man committed over 50 rapes and at least ten murders before disappearing and alluding the best detectives in the area. 30 years after his crimes, a dedicated team of amateur sleuths compile evidence and theorize over how he could be found.

This true crime book, published after McNamara’s death and finished by her lead researcher, is the culmination of years of work. It is utterly compelling; you won’t be able to put it down. It’s a mystery that’s even more terrifying because it’s a true story. McNamara is the late wife of comedian Patton Oswalt and she was an accomplished writer. She truly brings the characters to life: victims, detectives, true crime aficionados… everyone, really, except the murderer, still a mystery all these years later.
