On Monday, January 20, Americans will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He is celebrated every third Monday in January, annually. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a chief spokesman using nonviolent activism for the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s. He is best known for participating in the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, his “I Have a Dream Speech” in 1963, and the marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965. He believed everyone should be treated equal no matter the color of one’s skin. This is one of Dr. King’s most famous quotes from his “I Have a Dream Speech”:
“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. ‘”
