This week has been dubbed Hunt for Happiness Week, and falls during the third week of January. In fact, the Society of Happy People began their mission in 1998, encouraging happiness for all. Did you know that there is even a World Happiness Report? The results of 2022 place the United States as being the 16th happiest nation in the world, and that is inspiring. Especially, as in our society, there has always been this idea that we need to pursue happiness like money.

We should definitely pursue happiness, but not in the way that it is all about pleasing oneself. I am of the mind that happiness, like love, boils down to a choice. I choose to give of my time, my love, my smiles, and my gratitude. I find happiness in giving happiness to others. To be happy is a state of mind, and it does take some effort and awareness. Being happy all the time may not be possible, but at least we have hope.

Of course, the people that surround us, whether at home, our place of employment, or our friends play a part in the joy on our face and in our heart. Finding those who have a common sense of purpose brings a smile to our souls. As we, society, continue to heal from the trauma of Covid, we can open our hearts again, to get out there and let beautiful karma and blessings flow back and forth. Happiness can be heard in a heartfelt thank you, listening to a child giggle, being grateful for all things, seeing your favorite color, and hearing your favorite song.

There are so many ways to find and choose happiness. Here at the Floyd County Library, we have many stories to share that will place a smile on your face, and if you read one that truly tickles you, we hope that you will share the happiness with others!
