Hello from the staff of the Galena Library!! We get several of the same questions each day, so we would like to let you know a little bit about who we are and what this library has to offer!
Question 1: If we checked out library books from New Albany, can we return them here?
- Yes! Galena Library is part of the New Albany-Floyd County Library. Even though we are not in New Albany, we are part of the same system.
Question 2: Can I put a book on hold from New Albany and pick it up at Galena?
- Yes! We have a transit system that transports books between the library branches on a daily basis so you can pick up your books at the most convenient location for you.
Question 3: What makes Galena a digital library?
- We do have a makerspace in our library that includes an Epilog Laser Machine, Ultimaker 2+ 3D Printer, Ender 3 3D Printer, Cricut Maker, two Brother Embroidery machines, and 4 sewing machines. All of these machines have monthly classes where you can sign up to learn how they work! Along with that, we have a Library of Things collection that explores technology and other hands on activities. The library also holds laptops, iPads, and Kindles for in-house use. We do like to think of Galena as a regular library, though, since most of these resources are becoming more popular.
Question 4: Do you take book donations?
- Yes! We can take small book donations at our location and transit them to the Friends of the Library in New Albany. If the donations are on the larger side, it may be best to go ahead and set up an appointment with the Friends in New Albany to help you unload.
