Over the last few weeks we’ve been telling everyone about our new branch coming to 6956 U.S. 150 (the corner of 150 and Edwardsville-Galena road), in Galena. Having the opportunity to open a digital branch is amazing; having the opportunity to open a digital branch in a historical home is one of the coolest things ever! We’re going to blend the old and the new in as many ways as we can think of. This includes incorporating a laser etcher/cutter, coding classes, iPads, Kindles, etc. Because we’re hoping to accomplish so much with this new branch, there were things that needed to be upgraded/renovated in the house before we could start moving in. That process took longer than we thought, but we’re ecstatic with the results! I wanted to take this opportunity to show you a few images of what the house looked like before renovation, and how it looked the last time I saw it.
We still have a bit of work to do before we start moving furniture in, but I’m so excited about everything that’s happening that I had to take a moment to share it with you. We don’t have an exact open date, yet, but we’re hoping for sometime in the next couple of months. I expect that we will be reporting more exciting updates in the next several weeks, and look forward to experiencing this new branch with all of you!
Stefanie
This makes me incredibly happy. There couldn’t be a better fit for the location!
I remember this old house. I’m so glad you all rescued it and it will make a wonderful library.
Will there be any part time positions available at the new digital library, in Greenville? I live 10 minutes away, am retired and interested in applying.
I think we’ll need a part time person, but we aren’t accepting applications for that position, yet. Keep an eye out on the website, we’ll post the job there first.
Very cool. I know that thieves stripped a lot of copper out of that house, so I’m sure the renovation work was challenging. Congratulations on a great re-purposing of an historic building.
So amazing to see the work done Stefanie! I work on the Greenville Historic Preservation Commission and we’re so thankful to see what you’ve done with this historic home in Galena. Wishing you all the best with your upcoming opening!
I have always loved that house and I can’t believe I didn’t know about this! I’m so excited.,,can’t wait for the opening!!!
Well done! I’m so glad our library is pushing forward!

When will you start offering courses on how to use the items in the Maker Space?
Great question! That is still in the works and we’re hoping to start offering training soon. Watch our website for details!
