Did you know that the Galena Branch has a community Seed Swap?
These days, many public libraries are offering vegetable, flower, and herbs seeds to people for free in partnership with local gardening groups and patrons with green thumbs.
Many of our seeds come from the Sunny Side Master Gardeners and we also some saved and donated by your library visiting neighbors. I have also recently added some seeds that I dried and saved from our Library garden.
Currently, we have a wildflower mix available for growing your own flower patch.
We also used some of the flowers last week in a flower press craft project!
Getting seeds from our Seed Swap is a free way to start gardening, or to try out a new variety you have never seen before. Take whatever you want to try, and bring back anything you would like to donate for someone else!
While we don’t guarantee that every seed packet taken home from the library is viable, I have had a lot of success growing in the library garden and in my home garden. I picked up these mammoth sunflower seeds last year and will be adding some seeds back this year!
We were also able to give away lots of cucumbers and zucchini from our garden! We had lots of patrons also bring in extra produce from their backyard gardens to share as well.
It’s not too late to get a Fall garden started, so stop by the Galena Branch for some seeds! For more info about seed saving, check out https://www.seedsavers.org/.
