If you haven’t yet attended one of our children’s concerts at the library, you’re in luck! We have a number of fun concerts planned over the next few months. These concerts are geared toward children, and include fun music, coloring sheets, and even designated dancing areas! The music is fun enough for all ages, younger kids, older siblings, parents, and even grandparents, and has included jazz songs about pets, and some very fun singalongs.

You won’t have to wait long to enjoy these events, because this week on Friday, April 1st at 2:00 PM on the Upper Level of the library. This will be our Spring Break Concert and features Kiana & the Sun Kings! Their music mixes elements of R&B and soul with their jazz roots, to create music that everyone can enjoy.

Also in April, we will have a strings and stories children’s concert and dance party featuring New Albany High School’s Silken Strings ensemble, on Saturday, April 23rd at 12:00 PM on the Upper Level as well. These high school students will perform selections from the amazingly danceable Scheherazade suite by Rimsky-Korsakov. Inbetween pieces we will read selections from each of the featured stories of the suite, which was inspired by 1,001 Arabian Nights.

In May you can look forward to a Double Bass Children’s Concert on Saturday, May 21st at 12:00 PM in the Children’s Department, featuring Professor Sidney A. King! This concert will feature the double bass, the largest and lowest stringed instrument in the orchestra! Professor Sidney A. King’s multi-faceted career as a double bassist, educator, and composer span over four decades. Currently, he serves as a Professor of Double Bass and Music Education at the University of Louisville School of Music. Mr. King will teach children about the parts of the bass, the sounds it can make, and may even have other guest musicians play with him!

More concerts son to be announced, but keep an eye open on our calendar here: https://nafclibrary.libcal.com/ so you don’t miss out!
