Every November is National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, as it’s fondly referred to.

From the NaNoWriMo Website:

“National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with a first draft. They enter the month as elementary school teachers, mechanics, or stay-at-home parents. They leave novelists.”

Have you always wanted to write a book? I have!

I’ll be participating in my second NaNoWriMo this year. I didn’t get very far last year and am hoping to beat my last year’s word count. I’m not sure how it will go, but I’m going to go all in and do my best. Writing a book is something I want to experience before I leave this world.

How about you? Have you always wanted to write a book, too? We’ve got you covered at the New Albany Floyd County Public Library!

The New Albany Library is creating a NaNoWriMo Writing Community to support those who want to participate in the 2024 NaNoWriMo or any other writing challenge.

Every Monday in the month of November, we have a space set aside to gather together and write for an hour. Just to be together in solidarity as we go through the month-long challenge of putting 50,000 words on paper.

The focus is getting 50,000 words on paper. The editing happens afterwards and is not part of the challenge.
