We’ve just created a new section in our Children’s Room for Early Chapter Books. I invite you to come on in and check it out, especially if you have kids who are just graduating from the Easy Readers to the Fiction section.

Where are the Early Chapter Books located?

They are in the Children’s Room at the beginning of the Y Fiction section, starting on the back side of where the Graphic Novels are shelved. Call numbers for books in the Early Chapter Book section start with Y ECB.

What books can I find in the Early Chapter Books section?

You’ll find shorter chapter books aimed at about grades 1-3 in this section. Some of the popular series that have moved to this section are:

  • Junie B. Jones
  • Magic Tree House
  • Heidi Heckelbeck
  • The Bad Guys
  • My Weird School
  • Rainbow Magic Fairies
  • Ivy + Bean
  • Owl Diaries
  • The Princess in Black
  • A to Z Mysteries

Where have the Y Paper Series gone?

We’ve eliminated the Y Paper Series section, dividing those books into either the Early Chapter Books or Fiction sections, depending on the reading level.

Why the change?

We’re hoping to make it easier for families to find books at a good reading level for their children as they grow out of the Easy Reader section. Having everything in one big fiction section made for a LOT of shelves for young readers to look through. We’re hoping that pulling out these shorter, easier chapter books will help you find your favorites and discover new favorites!

What if I can’t find what I’m looking for?

You can always look up your favorite series or author in our computer catalogs to see if it’s shelved in Early Chapter Books (look for call numbers that start with Y ECB) or Fiction (look for call numbers that start with Y FIC). While we’re moving everything, you might see some volumes of a series that have already been moved to Y ECB and some that are still hanging out in Y FIC waiting to be changed. We appreciate your patience as we work on getting all volumes moved. If you’re ever stuck or would like some help finding your favorites, please ask one of our librarians!
