It’s the new year and maybe time to set some new goals! Do you set reading goals for yourself? Now remember that you don’t HAVE to, but if setting some goals might renew your interest in reading, here are some ideas!

Join a Reading Challenge

This time of year, you can find all kinds of reading challenges aimed at stretching your literary palate. Check out some of these challenges and see if any pique your interest:

Track Your Reading (or Try a Different Way of Tracking Your Reading)

Do you like a more visual way of tracking your reading? Combine tracking with stress-reducing coloring with Everyday Reading’s 2023 printable reading log or check out some ways to track your reading in your Bullet Journal.

Is an app a better fit? Take a look at StoryGraph, which has some really neat ways of showing you reading statistics! You can also do a Buddy Read in StoryGraph to connect with your friends and discuss books through the app.

And did you know that you can keep track of your reading in Beanstack year-round (not just during Summer Reading)? It’s true!

Check Out One of Our Book Groups

If you’d like to connect with other book lovers or if having a deadline to finish a book motivates you to read it, definitely check out one of our book discussion groups that meet monthly. Copies of the books are available for checkout at the library and no, you don’t have to have finished the book to come to the meeting! January meeting dates and book selections are below. We update our Floyd County Library Book Groups page with upcoming meetings and selections and you can find upcoming dates on our Events calendar. Feel free to join us any time.

Upcoming Meetings:

  • Reading the Rainbow – Thursday, January 19 @ 6:00 PM reading The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice
  • Monday Mystery Book Group – Monday, January 23 @ 6:00 PM reading The Widows of Malabar Hill by Sujata Massey
