You may be asking yourself, “What is Dinovember”? I am here to answer that question for you.

Dinovember is based off of a book series called “What the Dinosaurs Did” by Refe and Susan Tuma. Every November, libraries and others use Dinosaurs to promote their programs and services. A picture is posted each day that tells what the dinosaurs are up to.

As the new Galena Digital Branch Leader, I thought it would be a great opportunity to spotlight all of the amazing things the Galena Library has to offer. I’m going to supply you with a few photos we have taken this month, so you can see how much fun our dinosaur friends are having on their field trip from New Albany.

Welcome to Galena Digital Library! Follow us dinosaurs as we explore everything the Galena Digital Branch has to offer!

The dinosaurs like many of our patrons are interested in what is upstairs. Upstairs used to be two bedrooms, but now it is just storage and staff offices. Due to no air conditioning or heat upstairs, staff tends to stay downstairs with the patrons. It’s much more cozy!

We have a makerspace room that has a laser machine, Cricut machine, sewing machines, and this Ultimaker 3D printer.  These dinosaurs had fun watching this purple unicorn come to life!

Even though this is a small location, we still have a play area for the children to have fun. The dinosaurs are playing with the grocery store buying lettuce and other necessities for their meals! They also played with our blocks, play house, and tiny barn.

Our dinosaurs are enjoying story time, which happens every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. They were super excited that the story time theme last week was dinosaurs!

The dinosaurs want you to know that the Galena Digital Branch has a book drop. You can bring your library books and return them even if they belong to New Albany. We have a transit van that transports the library books to their home locations.

The dinosaurs worked with one of our sewing machines to make a blanket since it is getting colder! We have a few sewing machines in our Library of Things Collection that you can check out and take home. To find all of the cool things we have to offer just search the library catalog for “library of things”. The dinosaurs hope to see an empty shelf in the future. That means all of the fun gadgets are being enjoyed by our patrons!

These dinosaurs did not follow instructions, and tore their original paper up before getting their copy. Galena Digital Library has a copy, fax, and scanning machine just like New Albany’s Central Branch. It is $.10 per black and white page and $.25 per color page to copy. Faxing and scanning are free.

This past Saturday, November 12, the dinosaurs got to tromp through the snow! Galena saw about 3 inches, all of which has melted. The dinosaurs had so much fun!

If you would like to keep following what the dinosaurs are doing for Dinovember, follow us on Instagram at galena_digital_library.

We hope you enjoyed the adventures the dinosaurs have taken so far!

Happy reading!
