2020 saw a lot of people completely changing their lives in many ways. For me, I was in my home more than ever before. This meant changing my space in a way that eliminated clutter, and made my space more comfortable. Combine that with the New Year’s Resolution many people make of getting organized, I thought it would be a great time to recommend some of the library’s best books for getting organized and eliminating clutter.

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo has been super popular, and is available in many formats. This book takes readers step-by-step through the “KonMari” method to help you eliminate anything in your life that doesn’t spark joy. The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: How to Free Yourself and Your Family From a Lifetime of Clutter by Margareta Magnusson explains the Swedish art of decluttering called d st dining or “Death Cleaning.” The humor and wisdom of the author teaches you to embrace minimalism. 

 

 

 

 

The Buy Nothing, Get Everything Plan: Discover the Joy of Spending Less, Sharing More, and Living Generously by Liesl Clark follows similar principles to “death cleaning” wherein you buy less and share more. This is an accessible 7-step guide to decluttering, saving money and creating community.
