Dear Friends of the Library,

We have truly awesome books ready for your reading pleasure so don’t miss our next sale on Saturday, June 22nd from 8:00 AM to noon.  Please note the change in the sale start time – we are trying to beat the heat of summer.

Throughout the sale, we will be bringing out books to restock the carts and tables-come early, show up later or stay the entire sale, we will have great books for you.  If you don’t find what you are looking for, please ask one of the volunteers for assistance.  We have THOUSANDS of gently read, near new or new, rare, unusual, and interesting books for you, some are signed by the authors.

This sale will be in the library’s large parking lot near the annex building (rain date is June 29, 2024).  Unless otherwise marked, regular prices are $1 for hardback and 50 cents for paperback books.  Children’s books are 25 cents.  Cash and check only. All proceeds and donations are used to support the library.

We want to thank all of you who have donated books – we couldn’t do these sales without you and your wonderful books; your donations help support our Library. If you have books to donate to the Friends of the Library, you can bring them to the Friends during the sale or the Friend’s bookstore Monday, Wednesday, or Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 (bookstore phone number: (812) 949-3739).

We have a nice selection of library furniture for sale: desks, map file drawers, file drawers and much more – you must see.

We have too many books to list here, however, here is a list of some of the categories of books you can expect to find and some highlights:

Classics and Modern Classics – We have a new selection of great classical reads: Faulkner, Cervantes, Steinbeck, Twain, Hawthorne, Updike and many more.  We also have a beautiful collection of classics on the center table.

Children’s and Preteen books (25 cents each) – We have a huge selection of beautiful children’s and preteen books wonderfully curated by our volunteers.    We have both fiction and nonfiction children’s books for every age, reading level and interest. We are highlighting Disney, African American, summer sports, dinosaurs and horses. We also have a large selection of Magic Tree House and Wimpy Kids.  We have a large selection of great children’s movies (DVD; $1 each).

Children Gift Books – We have a large selection of beautiful children’s books in wonderful condition including a nice selection of Goosebumps and the Complete Tales of Madeline (priced as marked).

Choice Selections, Gift Books and Friends Picks – Located in the center table.  These are books in excellent condition, with a wide array of topics that the FOL found fascinating (e.g., Poverty in America; History of Watches).

In the News (check out this section) These books are about recent world events or people and politicians in the news and shedding light on what is happening now (center table).

New Fiction – We have a nice selection of recently (2022, 2023 and 2024) published books (priced as marked).

Fiction from A to Z – We received a wonderful, large selection of fiction.  If you are a history buff, check out our selection of historical fiction (WW II, pre 1900).  If you don’t see your author – ask one of the volunteers, and we will see if we have the book(s) you want.

Holiday Center and Special Days, Weeks and Months (center table and children’s area) – We are celebrating Christmas in June with Christmas crafts and Christmas fiction.  We also have books on Disney, Father’s Day, and 4thof July (books on the founding of the US).  We continue with a celebration of summer travel (books to help you plan your next get away) and Pride Month (check out the LGBTQ+ cart).  We have a wonderful selection of African American books (check out the African American cart and the books in the children’s area.

Center Table Surprises – Complete box set of L. Frank Baum’s Oz series ($10). Books on muscle cars, Mad Magazine and comic strips.  We also have a large selection of classics in their original slipcovers-all gently read.

Coffee Table Books – We have a nice selection of beautiful coffee table books (center table) such as The Battlefield Walking Guide and In Russian Style.

African American – We have a large selection of nonfiction, literature for adults and books by African American authors (e.g.., Maya Angelou and Toni Morrison).  The children’s section has a great selection of African American books for children.

Horror – We received a large selection gothic horror novels by V.C. Andrews and vampire stories by Ann Rice.  We also have a large selection of medical thrillers by Robin Cook.  Don’t miss our large selection of truly horrific horror DVDs.

Fantasy and Science Fiction – We have books by your favorite authors including the McGuires Oz books and J. R. R. Tolkien trilogy.

Young Adult Fiction – We have a great selection including a Harry Potter box set ($10).

Mysteries (all genres of mysteries-Cozies and classic mystery authors, Police Procedurals, Grim and Gory, and Best Sellers).  We have a large selection of James Patterson’s Alex Cross and Women’s Murder Club books, Catherine Coulter’s FBI Series and Dan Silva.    If you don’t see the author/book you want, ask one of the volunteers, we may have the book.

Short Stories, Essays, Large Print and Erotica – We have a nice donation of short stories and novellas great for summer reads and have a large selection of large print by best-selling authors including Amy Tan.

Humor, TV-Tie In, and Media – Read about your favorite movie or tv show or lighten your mood with one of our funny books.

New Age and Parapsychology – We have a large selection of books.  We received a new donation on Tarot cards, Pagan traditions, sacred stones, witchcraft, fairy-faith and angels.

Popular Culture — Romance–We have a huge selection of romance novels.  We have Sandra Brown, Danielle Steel, Jude Deveraux and Harlequin Romance (Heartwarming, Close to Home, American Romance, Super Romance).  We have Popular Romance including books by Nora Roberts, Debbie Macomber and J.D.Robb.

Christian and Amish Fiction – We received a nice donation with Beverly Lewis books and Secrets from Grandma’s Attic.

Contemporary Romance, Spicy Novels and Paranormal Romance – This section has many new authors including Jayne Ann Krentz and Jennifer Crusie.

Fiction Set in the West-Westerns and Native American fiction. We just received a donation of wonderful western novels.

Action Adventure – Adventures in war and peace. Your favorite spies at work and secret agents saving the world. We have a huge selection–if you don’t see the author you want–ask one of the volunteers.

LGBTQ+ – We have both fiction and nonfiction books.

History – We have an incredible selection of books about the history of almost every part of the world.  We are highlighting a nice donation of Civil War books and we just received a large donation of WW II books.

Arts, Crafts and Do-It-Yourself – We received a new donation which included books on stain glass, fabric art and scrapbooking. Now is the time to think about home improvements and we have the books that will help you make the project a success.

Cookbooks-Summertime is perfect for healthy eating, and we have the books to get you started.

Sports and Travel – We are spotlighting exercise.  We have great travel guides to help you plan your next get-away either in the US or international.

Animals – Animal studies and animal stories.

Art, Theatre (Plays), Literature, Photography, Architecture, Poetry, Music and Dance-We have books about every area of art from painting to writing and everything in-between.

Biographies- Books about authors, actors, politicians, sports figures, and many others. We are featuring biographies about the golden age of movies.    We received a beautiful select of books about Madonna

Gardening, Science and Nature – We have lovely books on nature, summer is a great time to catch up on your love of nature.

Politics and Political Science – We have books to help you understand historical aspects of the current political environment.

Kentuckiana – Find out about the region you live in.

Foreign Language (Spanish literature, Spanish authors) Reference, Business and Personal Finance 

Archeology, Anthropology, Mythology, Folklore, Philosophy and Sociology – Check out these interesting books.

Religion – We have received great donations of books on Religious Studies and World Religions.  We also have books on religious/spiritual journeys.

DVDs, CDs, LPs and more.  We have an excellent selection of movies and TV series on DVD (unless otherwise marked $1). Golden Age of Hollywood DVDs includes the finest movies and TV series from the past. We also have a large selection of children’s movies DVDs ($1).
We have music of all types on CDs (5 for $1).

Books on CDs ($1 each).  For those long car trips and while you are working – we have a large selection including nonfiction and fiction (mystery, action adventure, etc.).   Books on CDs make the miles and time flow past quickly.

Music — We have a large selection of LPs, many from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Puzzles and Games – We have a received a great selection of puzzles (center table).

High School Year Books ($2 to $5) – We have a large selection of New Albany High School Year Books (1905 to 2010).  We have yearbooks from most local schools and a wide range of years.  If you are interested in a yearbook, ask one of the volunteers and they will be happy to check if we have it in stock.
