Dear Friends of the Library,

Tis the Season and Tis the Time to join us for our last book sale of 2024-December 7, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Stock up on great reads for the long winter months ahead (the first book sale of 2025 is March 29th).  Now is the time to shop for holiday gifts for your family and friends.  We have a wide range of books and other items – perfect for the hard to please individual on your gift list or as wonderful stocking stuffers. For example, we have a Great Northern Popcorn Machine Cart like new ($50).  Be sure to stop by and visit with Father Christmas and enjoy a candy cane treat.

We have received bountiful donations of wonderful books on almost every topic and genre.  Whether you read fiction or nonfiction, we have books for you.  We will be jolly and happy to help you find the book or books you are looking for, by topic or author, please ask one of the volunteers for assistance.  Throughout the sale, we will be bringing out books to restock the carts and tables-come early, show up later or stay the entire sale, we will have great books for you.  We have THOUSANDS of gently read, near new or new, rare, unusual, and interesting books for you, some are signed by the authors.

This sale will be in the library’s large parking lot near the annex building (There is no rain/snow date).  This is our last sale of the year!!  So don’t take the chance – stock up now!!  The first FOL book sale of 2025 is March 29, 2025.

Unless otherwise marked, regular prices are $1 for hardback and 50 cents for paperback books.  Children’s books are 25 cents.  Cash and check only. All proceeds and donations are used to support the library. We want to thank all of you who have donated books – we couldn’t do these sales without you and your wonderful books; your donations help support our Library.   If you have books to donate, please use the drop box located on the Annex Building (the building with the beautiful murals), you can also bring them to the Friends during the sale or the Friend’s bookstore Monday, Wednesday, or Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 (bookstore phone number: (812) 949-3739).

We have too many books to list here, however, here is a list of some of the categories of books you can expect to find and some highlights:

Classics and Modern Classics – We have some great reads for you, perfect for those long winter months.  We are featuring plays by Shakespeare and classic plays.  We also have Sherlock Homes and books by E. M. Forester, George Orwell and Harper Lee.

Children’s books (25 cents each) – We have a huge selection of books for children from zero to 13 years.    We have both fiction and nonfiction books for every reading level and interest. We are highlighting Big Books, bags of mini books (.25 per bag), American Girls, activities and coloring books, and board books.  Check out the large selection of Award Winners and Classics. These books would make wonderful stocking stuffers.

Children Gift Books – Perfect for stocking stuffers -we have a beautiful selection of children’s books in wonderful condition including Winnie the Pooh and the Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland (priced as marked).

Choice Selections, Gift Books and Friends Picks – Located in the center table.  Great gift books -These are books in excellent condition, with a wide array of topics. Books include On the Origin of Time by Thomas Hertog and Insight Meditation (priced as marked).

In the News (check out this section) These books are about recent world events or people and politicians in the news and shedding light on what is happening now, we are highlighting our current political leadership, Russia, China and the Middle East.

New Fiction – You must check this out for yourself and as great gifts — We have a nice selection of recently (2022, 2023 and 2024) published books (priced as marked) including authors Dan Silva and Elin Hilderbrand.

Fiction from A to Z – We have received new fiction titles for your reading pleasure.  We received the entire Children of the Earth series by Jean Auel – a great holiday present. Other authors include James Harriot, Lucinda Riley and Sara Donati.  If you don’t see your author – ask one of the volunteers, and we will see if we have the book, we are happy to assist you.

Check out the huge selection of historical fiction including Herman Wouk’s War and Remembrance and books by Philippa Gregory.

Holiday Center (center table and children’s area) – We are celebrating the holiday and winter season.  This is the section to put you in the holiday mood.

Center Table Surprises- Discover the great books we have waiting for you on the center tables.

Coffee Table Books – Just in, a beautiful selection of coffee table books on artists and art movements as well as The Complete Cartoons of the New Yorker (with CDs; $3) and The Encyclopedia of New York City. Many in excellent – gift ready condition.

African American – We have a rich and diverse selection of nonfiction, literature for adults and books by African American authors.  The children’s section has a great selection of African American books for children.

Horror – We have books by Andrews, Koonz, King, Peretti and many more authors to send shivers down your spine.

Fantasy and Science Fiction – We have books by your favorite authors including fantasy authors Jacqueline Carey and Devon Monk.  Sci Fi books include Star Wars and books by Harry Turtledove.

Young Adult Fiction – We have a great collection including books by Louise Rennison and the Harry Potter series.  We have a large selection of manga on DVDs.

Mysteries – We have a new selection of books by classic mystery writers, historical mysteries and cozies.  We are highlighting Frieda McFadden, Alexander McCall Smith and Dana Stabenow.  If you don’t see the author/book you want, ask one of the volunteers, we may have the book.

Short Stories, Essays, Large Print and Erotica –This section includes books by Joan Elizabeth Lloyd and Jeffery Archer-Tell Tale.

Humor, TV-Tie In, and Media – Books include Life Goes to the Movies and Mark Twain’s Library of Humor.

New Age and Parapsychology – Check them out – these books are out of this world.

Happily, Ever After – We are featuring local artists Jude Deveraux (Fairdale, KY) and Karen Robards (Louisville, KY).  We have a large selection of Nora Roberts, Daniell Steel and Sandra Brown-it you don’t see the title you are looking for, ask one of the volunteers for assistance

Christian and Amish Fiction – We have books by Jenette Oke, Richard Paul Evans and Wand Brunstetter.

Contemporary Romance, Spicy Novels and Paranormal Romance –Authors in this section include Kristin Hannah, Colleen Hoover and Mary Abie Monroe.

Fiction Set in the West-Westerns and Native American fiction, how we think the west was won.

Action Adventure – Time to stock up, winter is a great time to read about adventures in war and peace. We have a huge selection of authors from Jack Archer to Herman Wouk.

LGBTQ+ – Check out the new arrivals in this section.

History – December 7th is a significant date in WWII history and to honor those who fought in this war we are featuring books on WWII.  We have a huge selection for you to choose from.   Books exploring almost every aspect of WWII.  Do you have an era, war or country you are particularly interested in learning about – we probably have a book you must read, just ask our volunteers for assistance.

Arts, Crafts and Do-It-Yourself – This section is your guide to creating homemade gifts for the holiday.

Cookbooks– Searching for the right gift for that hard to buy for person – who wouldn’t love to receive a beautiful tray of cookies and candies.  We have the cookbooks to make this happen.  We also have great cookbooks such as Joy of Cooking, Italian cookbooks and cookbooks with fast simple recipes – great for the busy holiday season.

Sports and Travel-Travel guides and stories from all over the world.  Now is the time to research your next travel adventure.  We are featuring football, basketball, archery, and exercise.

Animals – We have a wide selection of books to help you understand and care for your pets.  We have a great selection on birds.

Art, Theatre (Plays), Literature, Photography, Architecture, Poetry, Music and Dance-Check out the new titles, we have a wide selection in all areas.

Biographies- Books about authors, actors, politicians, sports figures, and many others. We are featuring biographies about pop culture icons.

Gardening, Science and Nature –Winter is a great time for science.  We have a large selection including A Sand County Almanac and Sociobiology by E.O. Wilson.  For those who love backpacking and hiking we have cookbooks including The. Trailside Cookbook and The Back-Country Kitchen.

Politics and Political Science – We have books to help you understand historical aspects of the current and past political environments.

Kentuckiana – Find out about the region you live in.

Foreign Language (Spanish literature, Spanish authors) Reference, Business and Personal Finance –  Winter is a great to start learning a language.

Archeology, Anthropology, Mythology, Folklore, Philosophy and Sociology – We have received a great selection of books to help you discover human’s distant past.

Medicine and Alternate Medicine – We have books to help you understand different phases of life including menopause.

Self Help –We have books to assist with all aspects of life including new books to help you deal with everyday challenges.

Religion – We have new to you books on Religious Studies, World Religions, prayer and devotionals along with new and gently read bibles – great as gifts.  We are featuring a selection of books by and about the Dalai Lama.

DVDs, CDs, LPs and more.  We have a HUGE selection of new stock CDs and DVDs. Including a large assortment of movies and TV series on DVD.  For example, we have the first 4 seasons of Angel and the first 6 seasons of Sex and the City. We also have classic movies and recently released movies (unless otherwise marked $1).  We have music of all types – whatever you like to listen to, we have it. We also have a large selection of children’s movies DVDs ($1).

Books on CDs ($1 each) a large collection including nonfiction and fiction (mystery, action adventure, etc.) were donated.

LPs We have a large selection of LPs, many from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Puzzles and Games – Perfect for the long winter months.  We just received a large donation of beautiful jigsaw puzzles (center table) and we have large variety of puzzle books.

High School Year Books ($2 to $5) – We just received 2 large donations of New Albany High School Year Books (1907 to 2010).  If you are interested in family history, we may have your parents, grandparents or great grandparents’ yearbook.  We have yearbooks from most local schools and a wide range of years.  If you are interested in a yearbook, ask one of the volunteers and they will be happy to check if we have it in stock.
