Join us on Saturday, May 9th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for the next Friends of the Library (FOL) book sale in the The Floyd County Library’s large parking lot (180 W. Spring St., New Albany, IN). Rain date is May 16th.
Thank you for your patronage and support. Because of you, the first FOL book sale of the 2026 season was the best ever. Let’s keep this momentum going. Thanks to your generous book donations, the bookstore has been restocked and we have an amazing array of books for your reading pleasure along with LPs, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, Library furniture and so much more.
We have thousands of books on almost every topic and genre. Throughout the sale, we will be bringing out books to restock the carts and tables. Come early, show up later or stay the entire sale for awesome books!
We will have a special treat again: My Friends Coffee Truck will have coffee drinks and other goodies available for purchase during the sale right in our parking lot.
Unless otherwise marked, regular prices are $1 for hardback and 50 cents for paperback books. Children’s books are 25 cents. Cash and check only. All proceeds and donations are used to support your library.
Reminder, if you don’t find the book(s) you want by author or topic on our sales floor (parking lot), please ask one of the volunteers for assistance. We would be happy to help you find the book or books you are looking for.
We want to thank everyone for their donations of books and other items. We could not support our library without your generous donations and our wonderful patrons – THANK YOU. Please spread the word and let your friends and family know about donating books to the Friends. If you have donations, please use the drop box located on the Annex Building to the right of the door (the building with the beautiful murals). You can also bring them to the Friends during the sale or the Friend’s bookstore Monday, Wednesday, or Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30. Our bookstore phone number is (812) 949-3739.
Below are categories of books you can expect to find (we have entire carts and tables laden with books on these topics) and we have too many new books to list, but here are some special highlights:
Classics and Modern Classics – We have a large supply of great classics including books by C.S. Lewis (the 7 volumes-The Chronicles of Narnia), Great Reads classics, Complete set of The Diary of Anais Nin (7 volumes-boxed set;$5); and so much more.
Children’s books (25 cents each) – We have received huge donations of beautiful children’s books including a large selection of award winners and classics, animals and science, series such as Beast Quest, foreign language, jokes and riddles, poetry, and easy readers. We also have a wonderful selection of Preteen books.
Children Gift Books – We have a huge selection of children’s books in wonderful condition (priced as marked). These books make wonderful gifts. We have too many to list (e.g., Curious George Bedtime Stories, Black Beauty, and more) – check out the gift cart and crates for the best selection.
Choice Selections, Gift Books and Friends Picks –Located on the center table (priced as marked), these are books in excellent condition, with a wide array of topics. We have Dinosaurs and Dragons galore along with Star Trek: A history in Pictures and Safari: A Photicular Book (designed by paper engineers and the animals move). We have the History of Magic, Milk of Paradise: The History of Opium, Rebel Witch and so many more interesting books.
Book Tok Books – We have a huge selection; authors including Patricia Briggs, Chris Bohjalian, Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner, Samantha Shannon and so many more-you must check this out (priced as marked; center table)!
In the News (check out this section, center table, priced as marked) – Want to know more about current world events or people and politicians in the news, we have books to provide the information you need. We have Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War, How Congress Works and Why You Should Care, Splendid Solution: Jonas Salk and the Conquest of Polio and so many more.
New Fiction – We have a wonderful selection of recently (2024, 2025 and 2026) published books (priced as marked). Authors include Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben, T. Kingfisher, Jen Hatmaker, Jan Fields and many more. You must check this out.
Fiction from A to Z – We have received great new fiction books and the carts and tables are FULL of new stock fiction (too many to even try to list). If you don’t see your author – please ask one of the volunteers, and we will see if we have the book, we are happy to assist you.
Historical Fiction– We have a great selection of historical fiction, including authors Wilbur Smith, Colleen McCullough, Jennifer Chiaverini and so many more. You must check this out.
Holiday Center (center table and children’s area; priced as marked) –We are celebrating National Migrating Bird Day and have a large selection of books about all things birds. Books include National Audubon Society: Field Guide to Birds Eastern Region; A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds; and The Bird Way.
Center Table Surprises- We have great surprises (priced as marked). We have a nice selection of Herb books (e.g., The Herbal Drugstore, Ancient Cures with Medicinal Herbs). For Nascar and Indy 500 fans we have received a very large selection of racing programs – most are still in their plastic sleeve and books on racing and race car drivers including Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Larrry McReynolds (signed) and Tony Steward (signed);
Special Table – Check these out. We have a large selection of books on Natural Cures and Homeopathy (e.g., Natural Healing Encyclopedia; The Folk Remedy Encyclopedia).
Coffee Table Books – The American Nurse, Appalachian Wilderness and The Birth of Marilyn are a few of the beautiful coffee table books we have for you.
African American – We have a great selection of nonfiction, biographies, literature for adults and books by African American authors e.g., Al Roker’s Ruthless Tide, The Pact, Angie Thomas’s The Hate U Give, books by Toni Morrison and many more.
Horror – We have a great selection of scary books. Books by King, Koontz, Andrews, Harris, Straub and many more. Check out the selection of Horror movies (DVDs).
Science Fiction and Fantasy – We just received a HUGE donation of Science Fiction and Fantasy. This is the largest selection of books that we have ever had-Do Not Miss This Sale.
Science Fiction – We have a large selection of books including classic writers such as Asimov and new Sci-Fi writers – we have hundreds of books (too many to try and list).
Fantasy – We have the Dune series, authors: L. E. Modesitt, Jr., Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, Piers Anthony and too many others to list.
Young Adult Fiction – Make sure to check out the young adult cart. We have the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Rordan and AP course books. Lots of new stuff is arriving daily.
Mysteries – We have received wonderful donations and have a large selection for you to investigate. Books by classic mystery writers, historical mysteries, cozies, grim and gory and true crime. Check out the wonderful selection of “Just In” mysteries. We are highlighting James Patterson’s series: Alex Cross, Women’s Mystery Club, etc. We also have a huge selection of Evanovich’s Stepanie Plum books. If you don’t see the author/book you want, ask one of the volunteers, we may have the book.
Short Stories, Essays, Large Print and Erotica –We have new stock of essays and short stories including Mysterious Erotic Tales and so much more
Humor, TV-Tie In, and Media – This cart has something for everyone, from your favorite shows and movies to the humorists and cartoonists that give you belly laughs.
New Age and Parapsychology – Interesting books for you including how to control your dreams and The Biology of Belief.
Happily, Ever After –We are highlighting vintage romance – these reads are a look into days gone past. We have a huge array of romance books in every genre: Western romance, Historical romance, Romantic suspense, Inspirational romance, new romance, Harlequin romance, Paranormal romance, Happily Ever After romance and more.
Christian and Amish Fiction and Contemporary Romance and Spicy Novels–We have a wonderful selection of books by your favorite authors and books by your soon to be next favorite author. Check this out.
Native American – We have a great selection of nonfiction and fiction books about Native Americans (center table).
Fiction Set in the West -We have a large selection of books by your favorite authors including Ralph Compton, Robert Westbook and many more.
Action Adventure – We just received a large selection of books by Jeffery Archer. We have your favorite authors and new soon to be favorite authors. If you don’t see your author or book, ask one of the volunteers for assistance.
LGBTQ+ – We have a wide variety of books in this area: novels, short stories, biographies and nonfiction – check it out.
History – This is one of our most popular areas and we have a diverse selection of books on almost every era and part of the world. If you can’t find the books you want, ask a volunteer, we will be happy to help. May is a significant month for WWII and we have a large selection of WWII books, check out the special rack. In honor or Memorial Day, we have a wide selection of books on America’s Wars on the history table.
Arts, Crafts and Do-It-Yourself – We have many new donations for those ready for spring cleaning and home repair projects. We have a large selection of books and magazines for decluttering and redecorating homes and outdoor spaces. On the Arts and Crafts cart, we have many books and magazines on quilting, sewing and needlepoint. Also check out the section of miscellaneous crafts for both adults and children.
Cookbooks– We have wonderful cookbooks by your favorite chefs. Summertime cookbooks on grilling and making quick meals for all of you on the go. For the special times we have books on cake decorating and bread baking – yummy.
Exercise/Sports and Travel– Now is the time to get out and about – we have great books on hiking, trails, biking and fishing. We also have wonderful books to get you moving with exercise and Yoga
Animals – Birds, fish, snakes, dogs and cats – we have books for you. We also have Temple Grandin’s Animals in Translation. If you are looking for information and stories about a specific type of animal, ask one of the volunteers.
Art, Theatre (Plays), Literature, Photography, Architecture, Poetry, Music and Dance– We received a beautiful selection of books on guitarists, guitar song books and how to play guitars and make guitars. We have a great selection of Literary journals (priced as marked). Check out this section.
Biographies- As always, we have a wonderful selection of biographies of people from all walks of life. We are highlighting Europeans, interesting people and their places. If you don’t see the book you want, please ask one of the volunteers, we may have it.
Gardening, Science and Nature – Planning to up your gardening game, we have the books you need to make your garden the envy of the neighborhood. We have incredibly interesting books on a wide variety of topics, e.g., Darwin’s Dangerous Idea by Dennett, Einstein: His Life and Universe by Isaacson, Myths and Truths about Coyotes by Cartaino.
Politics and Political Science – Great for this election season; we have a good selection of books by politicians, journalists and others provide insight into the current political scene and policies.
Kentuckiana – We have great books on local sports and our politicians.
Foreign Language (Spanish literature, Spanish authors) Reference, Business and Personal Finance – Time to learn a new language, we have wonderful books to help. Need help with your family budget, we have a nice selection of books about personal finance. Check out this eclectic section-something for everyone.
Archeology, Anthropology, Mythology, Folklore, Philosophy – We received a nice selection of Philosophy. We just received Norse Myths and Legends, Japanese Myths and Legends and Irish Fary Tales and Folklore and interesting books on social anthropology.
Medicine and Alternate Medicine – We have great books on brain health, pregnancy and more. Check out the books on the cart and the special table (Natural Cures and Homeopathy) and center table (Herbs).
Self Help books are designed to guide readers to personal growth, emotional well-being and overcoming life challenges. We are featuring books on relationships (Dr. Spock, Parenting), Communication (help in understanding what others are really saying) and Psychology Books
Religion – In honor of National Day of Prayer (May 1st) we are highlighting books on prayer. We also received a very nice donations of books on the study of the Greek New Testament (The New Testament was originally written in Greek). We also have new selections in religious journeys, religious studies, world religions, Bibles and other religious texts.

High School Year Books ($2 to $5) – We just received a very large donation of New Albany and Floyd County year books. We have New Albany High School Year Books (1907 to 2006). If you are interested in family history, we may have your parents, grandparents or great grandparents’ yearbook. We have yearbooks from most local schools and a wide range of years. If you are interested in a yearbook, ask one of the volunteers and they will be happy to check if we have it in stock.
Collector’s Corner– We have received a huge selection of very nice, old and unusual books on nearly every topic. Books that are out of print.
