At this time of year, a lot of people tend to think about American history– the founding fathers, the revolution, the thirteen colonies. But equally important is the American future– what will that look like?

Some potential answers to that question are found in the short story anthology The People’s Future of the United States, which features twenty-five great writers of our time, from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, writing about their visions for the future of our country. The stories contain lots of fighting and hardship– as our history does– but also large doses of hope and joy. Action, adventure, humor, and love take turns at the forefront of the various stories.

Over the long holiday weekend, I recommend picking up this book for short bites of interesting fiction from authors you’ll fall in love with if you haven’t already, such as Seanan McGuire, Victor LaValle, Charlie Jane Anders, Jamie Ford, Tananarive Due, G. Willow Wilson, Daniel José Older, Maria Dahvana Headley, and more.
