The Floyd County Library offers the following features/services for those patrons with accessibility needs:

  • Handicap designated parking is located in the rear parking lot, at the corner of Elm and Scribner.
  • Handicap assist doors are available at upper and lower level entrances.
  • Handicap accessible restrooms are located on the lower level (via elevator from upper level).
  • A wheelchair accessible ADA work station is available on each level
  • A wheelchair accessible Public Access Catalog is available on the upper level.

ADA Work Stations

The Floyd County Library offers two ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) work stations, one on each floor of the Library, to meet the needs of patrons who are visually impaired or physically challenged. Library staff is available to assist patrons with use of the equipment and software programs at each station. In addition to headsets, speakers, and custom mice for those who are physically challenged, the Library’s ADA work stations feature the following equipment and software:

JAWS Professional
JAWS, Job Access With Speech, is the world’s most popular screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications.

JAWS Training Bundle with PLEXTALK
The JAWS (Job Access With Speech) Training Bundle contains over 50 hours of high-quality one-on-one JAWS training sessions, including tutorials on Microsoft Office. PLEXTALK, a digital talking book player, allows print disabled users, including those who are blind or dyslexic, to read and navigate through the JAWS training sessions.

MAGic® Screen Magnification Software with Speech
MAGic is a screen magnification and screen reading solution for low vision computer users. MAGic can help users work more efficiently with business applications, documents, email, navigating the Internet, and engaging in social networking. MAGic delivers smooth, crisp letters, even at the highest magnification levels. Speech options add human-sounding voices to speak text and echo user actions.

OpenBook Software and PEARL Document Camera
OpenBook converts printed documents or graphic-based text into an electronic text format on a computer, using high-quality speech and the latest optical character recognition (OCR) technology. OpenBook is innovative software designed to enhance success for people who are blind or have low vision who need access to printed and electronic materials. OpenBook and the PEARL document camera create a complete scanning and reading system for those with visual impairment.
