Job Title: Building Services Team Member

Department: Facilities

Reports To: Asst. Director of Operations

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Benefits: Full

Salary: Minimum $12.00 per hour

Summary Ensures that building(s) and grounds appearance reflects/maintains a safe and welcoming environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Administration:

Systematically clean assigned areas of the library by mopping, vacuuming, dusting, etc.

Maintain housekeeping and maintenance supplies.

Assist in the removal of obsolete and unnecessary materials, including exterior grounds keeping. Light snow removal on walkways and entry ways when needed.

Watch for building areas requiring repair or upkeep (lights, cleaning etc.).  Correct or report them as appropriate.

Repair minor plumbing, carpentry work and light painting as requested. 

Assemble furniture and install equipment.

Be attentive to safety hazards and obstructions that make the building less accessible both within and on library grounds and correcting or notifying the person in charge.

Be attentive to security problems (such as theft and mutilation of materials) and patrons who are violating the library’s building use policy.  Assist the person in charge of dealing with them.

Evaluate worn or damaged equipment to determine if the material needs to be replaced, withdrawn or repaired.

Participate in the evaluation of cleaning equipment and tools prior to purchase and maintain the library’s tool collection.

Make the library more accessible to all patrons by hanging signs, moving furniture, adjusting shelf height and recommending equipment.

Attend and participate in workshops, training sessions and other meetings.

Other duties as assigned and willingness to learn new techniques.

Candidate must successfully pass a drug screening/background check.

Education and/or Experience                   

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least six months of related experience.

Language Skills                   

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patrons, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability                   

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills                   

Knowledge of basic computer software applications and email.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Other Skills and Abilities                   

Basic knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing, mechanics, HVAC, painting, plastering and minor drywall repair.  Ability to use hand and power tools.

Other Qualifications                   

Must be able to a flexible work schedule, which will include evenings and weekends.
