Hello! This is the Galena Crew again, and today we will be talking about our Library of Things Collection!

You may have noticed that libraries are not just buildings full of books anymore. Libraries offer lots of classes, services, and some interesting collections of physical items available for check out.

Our Library of Things collection was built around the idea that staff buy a lot of cool “stuff” for programs that are only used once or twice a year! We wanted to share these things with you instead of letting them collect dust in a back closet. This seemed more important than ever since the start of the pandemic because our programming had shifted to virtual events.

The Dash Coding Robot was used in some of our coding programs. It is available for check out!

The Library of Things Collection is also a good chance to “try before you buy”. We all know that gadgets and gizmos can get pretty pricey. A lot of our items are also good ways to add some oomph to your outdoor adventure or staycation at home. They are also good ways to try out a new hobby without spending your own money.

Document your vacation with the GoPro!

Watch a movie outside at home with our movie projector!

Have you always wanted to try the ukulele? Now you can!

The Floyd County Library of Things collection items or kits are available for a 2 week check out with automatic renewals as long as someone else does not have it on hold. Most of our kits come in their own carrying case and include a picture inventory of all of the included pieces. This should make transportation and clean up easier.

If an item is on hold, and the patron does not come to pick it up after 7 days, the hold will be canceled and offered to the next person in line.

These kits are housed at the Galena Branch, but can travel between the Library branches for convenient pick ups and returns.

Visit https://floydlibrary.org/lot/ to see all of the kits currently available!
