I am a huge Star Wars fan and can’t wait for the next movie.  To ease some of my anticipation, I decided to read some of the Star Wars books that take place between the movies.  I began this reading quest with Star Wars the Last Jedi:  Cobalt Squadron, which I checked out from the library.  There is also an e-book version on Hoopla, available for download here.  This book is written for youth, but is a great read for any Star Wars fan.

Cobalt Squadron takes place before The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and follows Rose Tico and her sister, Paige.  The thing I enjoyed most about this story was how it brought some of the lesser known bomber squadron characters to life.  We get to see more about why Paige and Rose joined the Resistance.  We see what the Resistance was doing leading up to the events in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.  We also get a glimpse into the lives of bomber squadron characters so minor that most of them were never named on screen.  This fast-paced, action-packed story is full of description, ranging from the details of the inner workings of signal jammers to the ecosystem of an unusual planet.

If you’re a Star Wars fan, or just a fan of the science fiction genre, I highly recommend that you check out this book.  Elizabeth Wein’s writing style is similar to Judy Blundell’s writing in the Star Wars:  Jedi Apprentice books.  Cobalt Squadron also has a similar feel to Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series.

While you’re looking for more Star Wars fun to keep you busy until the next movie, join us for Star Wars Day on March 17, 2018!
