June is Audiobook Appreciation Month, and I’d like to share with you some of my personal favorites I’ve come across while working at the Library. These are great suggestions to help add to your Summer Reading Minutes, as well as enjoy during long summer road trips!

Harry Potter (the whole series) by J.K. Rowling: I tell everyone that this is the best way (in my opinion) to enjoy the Harry Potter series. The American version is narrated by Jim Dale, and it has won awards for his amazing skills. Everyone in the family can enjoy this whimsical tale of an ordinary boy who learns he is a famous wizard!

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett: I felt that the Dutch House was, in many ways, a coming of age story for the two siblings in the story. However, the best part of the audio version was narrator Tom Hanks. He brought such a spark to the story, and I just loved listening to him read.

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid: I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book as much, had I read the physical book. This is a full cast audiobook, and it really helps you hear the story of each character. This rockumentary was full of drama and will please fans of both rock-n-roll and reality style drama.

Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah: Let’s face it, the best part of this audio is listening to Trevor Noah. I could listen to him talk all day. This autobiographical comedy discusses the childhood that, by his very existence, was illegal in apartheid South Africa.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: This may be one of the best books I’ve ever read; or at least one of my favorites. I recommend listening, rather than reading, because the narrator of the World War II story is Death. The narrator, Allan Corduner, does an amazing job; bringing grace and solemnity to this story about a young girl who is simply sharing her love of books at a time when it is forbidden.
